AI for private practice that keeps client notes on your machine

A hosted assistant answers by transmitting what you typed to a vendor's servers. Once session notes or anything identifying a client are in that text, you have disclosed protected information to a third party — and unless that vendor has signed a business associate agreement with you, that is a problem you cannot paperwork away. The usual answer is that the practice simply does not use AI.

Local Keep AI can run the model on your own computer. With a local model selected, the note you paste and the answer you get back are processed on your hardware and are never transmitted to Local Keep AI or to anyone else. You can confirm this the honest way: disconnect from the internet and keep working.

Local Keep AI is not a HIPAA-certified service and we do not offer a business associate agreement. We are not telling you that using this software makes your practice compliant, and nothing here is legal or regulatory advice. What we do tell you, precisely, is where your data goes — which is the fact your own compliance assessment actually needs. If you choose a cloud-hosted model, that text is sent to the provider to be answered; for anything involving client information, use a local model. Every model in the picker is labelled local or cloud.

Install it, choose a local model, turn off your Wi-Fi, and ask it to tidy up a paragraph of your own writing. If it answers with the network off, nothing was sent anywhere — you have tested the claim rather than believed it. Local models are free and there is no card to enter.
